ICT systems are really important for Law Enforcement. National databases such as the NCIC or National Crime Information Centre (USA) and the PNC or Police National Computer in the United Kingdom help law enforcement officers to access various records on a certain person such as any criminal records, finger prints, photo, license plate, and much more vital information.

The computers can also be used in many ways such as: • Tracking Parolees (People released early from jail due to good behaviour) • Creating Reports • Creating sketches according to eye witness statements of wanted criminals. Referred to as PROFILING. • Biometric scanner connected to computer to input a person’s fingerprint that will then be stored on the database. The fingerprint once scanned can be used to receive the records. • Equipment inventory

Many of these computers are also found inside of the police cars for quick access to the national database. Video glasses also record and send live video of the current situations back to the main police station

LAW FIRMS

ICT is now used widespread as it helps speed up many processes. These are split into two main branches, business management and practise management. -BUSINESS MANAGEMENT- • Spreadsheets – billing and expenses • Data Storage and Retrieval • Word Processing- Legal Documents

-PRACTISE MANAGEMENT- • Legal Research Websites- Get information about certain case laws and legislation in different countries. • Software Case Management and Document Assembly- Find information on past cases to help with current arguments. • Expert Software- Specific areas of law such as bankruptcy, family law, or injury law.
